I studied under Jamila Salimpour starting in 1970 and was her protege for many years.In the SF bay area I worked 7 nights a week between the Casbah, Greek Taverna & El Morocco. I also taught almost as many days. I toured Canada with Holiday in Greece and South America with Rana & Naim. Now living in the Dearborn area of Michign I work closely with ACCESS,
& the Arabic Community while also teaching both the dance and music at U of M in Ann Arbor and Oakland University in Rochester. Besides my personal classes I travel doing lecture dems in the schools. There I demonstrate 23 instruments, including string, woodwind and percussion and show regional dances, costumes and artifacts.My troop the Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble performs at the Michigan Renaissance Festival
Training Schedule:
My classes are at oakland University starting at 1 pm with technique. At 2pm is applied technique and at 3pm is a troop training session.
During the week I teach classes in my home studio.
All classes include not only dance technique but also training in music, cymbals, costuming and the use of props including sword, cane veil and of course acrobatic floor work for those who are instersted.
